February TBR (2020)

Recommended Reads / Friday, January 31st, 2020

Ah, the month of Valentine’s day and all things love. I think it’s mandatory for Romance authors and readers to have a February reading list, literally in the contract somewhere obvious, not in a tiny clause. Therefore, you’ll find below my reading plans for the coming month.

How I made my selections

I initially had the idea to read Valentine’s day themed books (terribly original, I know), but had trouble finding them for some reason. The theme seems more popular with contemporaries (which I don’t mind, but for my purposes I try to stick to historical), and even those that had Valentine in the title didn’t seem like they necessarily coincided with the holiday.

Therefore, I compromised, finding a couple books with Valentine in the title and choosing a couple more with pink/red covers from my reading wish list. Huzzah for two birds with one stone!

One disclaimer: I’ve previously read “A Viscount for Valentine’s” by Rebel Carter, and while it isn’t historical, it’s a fun short read which I loved and I owe the book a review, so decided to include it here to force the point.

Have you made a holiday reading list? Do Share! Wishing you a wonderful holiday filled with love!

Gold digger.

For months, Inez Solis strived to wear the title as a point of pride, believing she could be happy with bagging a rich man. And it worked, until the night she realizes she has lost sight of her moral compass, all for the promise of a life where she wants for nothing but pays with her heart.

She is shaken when she meets Graham, a man with a gentle heart and a title. With Valentine’s Day on the horizon, Inez does her best to steel her heart against the viscount, but is she doomed to make the same mistakes?

Viscount Blackthorne is better known as Blackheart, a notorious rogue with a reputation for seduction. Forced to flee London and a young woman’s irate father, he escapes to the wilds of Yorkshire . The last thing he expects to find in the country is the stunning beauty he first eyed twelve years ago, the one woman who captivated his heart and made him question his ways.

The widow Honey Hockley has given up on romance and settled into the quiet simplicity of her small Yorkshire village. But Honey’s peaceful days are shattered when a handsome and mysterious stranger comes to town, forcing her to question her decision to accept a life alone.

A series of stepfathers and a difficult childhood have left Fletcher “Grey” Pryde, 5th Duke of Greycourt, with a guarded heart, enviable wealth, and the undeserved reputation of a rogue. When his mother is widowed yet again and he meets the charmingly unconventional woman managing his stepfather’s funeral, he’s shocked to discover how much they have in common. Still, Grey isn’t interested in love, no matter how pretty, or delightfully outspoken, the lady . . .

Beatrice Wolfe gave up on romance long ago, and the arrogant Duke of Greycourt with his rakish reputation isn’t exactly changing her mind. Then Grey agrees to assist his grief-stricken mother with her latest “project”: schooling spirited, unfashionable Beatrice for her debut. Now that Beatrice is seeing through Grey’s charms to his wounded heart, she’s having trouble keeping him at arm’s length. But once Grey starts digging into her family’s secrets, she must decide whether her loyalties lie with her family . . . or with the man whose lessons capture her heart . . .

Adair Thorne has just watched his gaming-hell dream disappear into a blaze of fire and ash, and he’s certain that his competitors, the Killorans, are behind it. His fury and passion burn even hotter when he meets Cleopatra Killoran, a tart-mouthed vixen who mocks him at every turn. If she were anyone else but the enemy, she’d ignite a desire in him that would be impossible to control.

No one can make Cleopatra do anything. That said, she’ll do whatever it takes to protect her siblings―even if that means being sponsored by their rivals for a season in order to land a noble husband. But she will not allow her head to be turned by the infuriating and darkly handsome Adair Thorne.
